Museo della Rappresentazione, belonging to the DICAr, Villa Zingali Tetto in via Etnea 742 - 95125 Catania
Dear visitors, welcome to the Museo della Rappresentazione (MuRa) of the University of Catania, housed in the splendid Villa Zingali Tetto, it is a prime example of Liberty-style architecture, designed by architect Paolo Lanzerotti and commissioned in 1930 by the lawyer Paolo Zingali Tetto. The villa itself serves as a museum, where you can admire early 20th-century architecture - rich with frescoes, stained-glass windows, and decorative period details. Additionally, it preserves and displays several significant collections of 20th-century architectural projects (by Fr. Fichera, C. Borzì, and A. Platania) as well as exquisite engravings by 18th-century artists (such as G.B. Piranesi, Fr. Piranesi, Pannini, De Vico, and Savorese).
Like all innovative university museums whose mission is teaching, research, and the Third Mission, MuRa is not just a place where collections are preserved, studied, and admired; it is a place of discovery. Here, traditional guided tours of the archives are linked to new findings and the results of studies conducted on the heritage it safeguards within the framework of teaching and research. This is a way to involve the community in the research conducted by our University and to clarify the interpretation and understanding of architectural projects. These can be experienced through innovative technologies that immerse visitors, helping them better understand the history, evolution, and design choices made. Furthermore, visitors can travel back in time, retracing centuries of transformations experienced by grand structures that represent the history of our nation - such as the Parthenon, the Colosseum, and the Arch of Titus.
MuRa opens its doors to all curious visitors, young and old alike, and to schools of all levels, organizing inclusive projects of every kind in cooperation with interested parties.
For school groups of various levels, we offer hands-on workshops where students can "touch art and architecture first-hand”, experimenting with a wide range of colors and materials to explore their imagination and individual perception of space. We test new learning methods that align more closely with how young people communicate, aiming to spark their curiosity and give them a voice to express their questions as we work together for our local community.
We wish you an enjoyable visit!
