Research
Today, the MuRa aims to strengthen the teaching and research activities of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture regarding Architectural disciplines, as well as the protection and preservation of the documentary heritage owned by the Department and beyond.
The MuRa's scientific contribution is primarily manifested in two areas: interdisciplinary research and scientific and popular production. Both the villa itself and the collections it houses serve as subjects of study for professors from the University of Catania and scholars from other universities, fostering national, departmental, and interdepartmental projects (such as PO-FESR projects like AGM and eWAS, as well as doctoral and master's theses).
The scientific activity of the MuRa has resulted in specific publications and presentations at national and international conferences, the curation of temporary exhibitions, and the organization of conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Furthermore, two laboratories have been established: the Laboratory of Surveying, Representation, and Digital Reconstruction and the Laboratory of Tools for Architectural Design. These laboratories are open to internal teaching and research experiences; at the same time, they serve as an experimental hub open to dialogues of common interest with external entities (schools, municipalities, provinces, superintendencies, private organizations, and professional firms) that focus on the local cultural heritage as their field of application.
