Laboratory of Surveying, Representation, and Digital Reconstruction
The Laboratory of Surveying, Representation, and Digital Reconstruction (R3D_LAB) experiments with the latest technologies in 3D acquisition, modeling, gaming, and virtual reality. Its goal is the knowledge, protection, and enhancement of the museum's documentary heritage (Fichera/Piranesi archives), as well as the university's collections and local heritage sites (such as the Castello Ursino Civic Museum).
The goal is to develop new tools that allow users and museum stakeholders to enter a relationship of co-creation regarding museum content and programming.
The exhibition dedicated to the laboratory spans two rooms, where visitors can appreciate various research and educational activities related to the documentation, enhancement, and accessibility of cultural heritage conducted during the laboratory's operations.
Various activities are carried out, including:
- Internal curricular internships (DICAR students) and external (other departments, other universities);
- Support for Drawing courses at DICAR;
- Degree Theses (focused on the documentation, management, enhancement, and virtual accessibility of university collections and the cultural heritage spread throughout the local area);
- Training workshops;
- School-to-work transition projects, PCTO;
- Collaboration with other SiMuA museums (mineralogy collection) and local museums (Castello Ursino Civic Museum).
